Cronos: The New Dawn has kicked off with strong momentum, racking up 200,000 digital sales just three days after launch. But don’t expect Bloober Team to jump into sequel mode just yet. Despite hitting impressive milestones, the studio is keeping its options open and its expectations grounded.
Cronos: The New Dawn makes a solid debut for a new IP
Launched on September 5, Bloober’s sci-fi survival horror game landed on nearly every platform: PC (Steam and Epic), PS5, Xbox Series S|X, Switch 2, Linux, and macOS. That wide release helped it reach 200K units sold by September 8, 2025. Notably, that figure doesn’t include physical editions, which have been delayed until September 19 for PS5.
The game also racked up over 1 million wishlist entries prior to launch, signaling high curiosity. But many players are still on the fence, likely waiting for physical copies or reviews before diving into its punishing gameplay loop.
Controlled budget keeps Cronos: The New Dawn low-risk
Despite online speculation that the game carried a massive $27.4 million budget, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno put those rumors to rest. In an interview with Bankier.pl, he made it clear the development costs were “certainly not that high.” The break-even target? Just 1 million units are well within reach, considering the game’s early traction and wide platform availability.
Why Cronos: The New Dawn matters for Bloober:
- First major self-published IP in years
- Cross-platform launch including Switch 2 and macOS
- Conservative budget = low financial risk
- 200K+ digital sales in 3 days
- 1M+ wishlists show continued interest
Bloober hints at media expansion, not a sequel
Even with positive sales and a growing fanbase, Bloober Team says there’s no sequel in active development. CEO Babieno confirmed that while the IP shows promise, the studio is instead eyeing other formats like film or television. In fact, some “major streaming services” are reportedly already showing interest.
So, while Cronos: The New Dawn may not evolve into a franchise just yet, it’s clear Bloober isn’t done with it either. For now, the game stands as a measured success, ambitious, intense, and built with just enough restraint to avoid financial fallout.
No sequel. No problem. Sometimes, one spark is enough to start a fire.
